How Wine Bottles got their shape

I entered into a conversation with an individual from a large national wine club, concerning the inability to load Burgundy bottles into their commercially produced wine rack. The individual questioned the winemaker by announcing his displeasure with their bottle choice and publicly asked for a change in the bottle shape used for the packaging of the Pinot Noir as the diameter of the bottom was too wide to fit into their wine rack.

My comments suggested that the wine rack was poorly designed such that only 2/3 of the classical bottle shapes wouldn't fit, but mine had no issues with respect to the wine bottle designs. I should have followed the advice of Mark Twain 'Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.".
